Me (spots Mayor drinking beers and chatting with some young people)" "Mayor Ravenstahl! You getting ready for the campaign??"
Mayor: "Huh."
Me: "What are you guys doing for the green agenda? I'm all about the green!"
Mayor: "Well....we're going to....uh........use the oil from Heinz field........."
Me: "Oh right, to fuel the city vehicles, right?"
Mayor: "Uh, yeah"
Me: "What else?"
Mayor: "Uh.......we got some grants for solar......"
Me: "Oh yeah, you mean the Solar Cities program??!"
Mayor: "Yeah"
I asked the mayor a few more questions, one being what he was going to do to keep businesses in the city. I don't recall him giving me a coherent answer. Luke seems like a nice guy, and he seems popular with the young ladies, and probably the young guys since he drinks beers and routes for the Steelers, but I came away from meeting him thinking "this guy is the mayor of Pittsburgh???"
"Baffling" to say the least.

So here is the mayor enjoying the game, talking to the ladies, drinking some beers. I don't have a problem with that. But isn't a Steelers game the perfect opportunity for the mayor to rub elbows with the corporate execs and those celebrities that he loves to chase around town? Shouldn't he do it on Sunday, at the game, on his day off, rather than on a weekday afternoon when there are important meetings taking place? Maybe its just me, but I probably wouldn't be leaning against the wall like Joe Cool drinking beers and chatting up ladies while I was a married mayor of a major US city. I would think there were more pressing matters I could be attending to - like, maybe inviting some out of town CEOs to the game to try to recruit them to open or move their businesses here. Or maybe "recognizing the opportunity" I had and inviting some under privileged youngsters to watch the game with my wife and I.

"You know....I used to be a placekicker........"

I haven't been to Heinz Field, so I have no idea where this was. I don't see any evidence of the Mayor's wife, so maybe this was near a women's room? The mayor was leaning against some door in one of the photos, it looks like, and it appears he is pretty sure its not going to open up. Meanwhile, there's the daylight bodyguard, I guess getting his share of overtime. Who pays for his ticket?
I don't know that we can require the Mayor to work seven days a week. For the Mayor to bring out of town CEO's to the game assumes the Mayor's seating arrangement at Heniz Field could accomodate that. Presumably the Mayor doesn't have his own skybox, rather just a couple of seats with the ordinary folks.
I don't mind him socializing on his day off, it is his free time, but there is a ton of work to be done. He could be spending his time at the game more wisely.
Could you picture a Mayor Bloomberg or a Mayor Daley chatting with college girls at an NFL game? No, they are socializing with public officials, CEOs, and other VIPs that can help bring jobs to their cities. Luke does not have this sense of urgency. He does not realize the opportunity OR the responsibility that comes with this job.
The point here is simple: yet again, Ravenstahl is acting like he's still at one of those three colleges he attended. Hanging with the dudes, chatting up the chicks, knocking back a few brews and rooting for the Stillers and desperately hoping that people will think he's cool.
He's like Tom Hanks in BIG, running around the city and doing a piss-poor job of pretending he belongs with the rest of the adults.
It would be pitiful if he were just another 27-year-old. That fact that he's mayor makes it pretty pathetic. For him and for us.
Maybe he knows the people in the picture?
You guys act like he should be holed up in an office 24/7?
Hoagie - Luke was camped out next to the women's restroom exit. It is clear to me he was there to stalk chics. Above are the pictures to prove it.
Don't you think the mayor of Pittsburgh has more important things to attend to while at the game?
Guess it's not possible that he would be waiting for someone (maybe his wife) to come out of the ladies room?
Absolutely not possible. That was during halftime, I was out there with Ravenstahled in sight for at least 10 minutes.
Check out the bodyguards in that photo - they look like they are protecting a rockstar from his groupies.
Or it just looks like he is standing there watching. It's not like thr guy is holding Luke by his arm or getting between Luke & those other people.
